Driving Korean Beauty Exports with Seoul Business Agency

Digital Districts and Groove Round Inc. partnered with the Seoul Business Agency to drive a Korean beauty export initiative called ‘K-Beauty from SEOUL’.


This initiative, which aims to drive exports of Korean beauty products and technology into Southeast Asia, is part of the 'SEOUL MY SOUL' campaign to promote cultural exports from Seoul, Korea.


The Korean delegation was represented by:

  • Mr. Chung Young Jun, Director General, Economy & Employment Planning Bureau (Seoul Metropolitan Government)

  • Mr Hyunwoo Kim (CEO of the Seoul Business Agency)

  • Founders of 30 Korean beauty and tech companies


The Malaysian Government was represented by:

  • Dr Mohammad Helmi Bin Abu Yahya, Special Task Officer to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, representing the Minister of Federal Territories Malaysia

  • Ms. Zurida binti Hashim Director, Corporate Planning Department Kuala Lumpur City Hall, representing the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur

  • Ms. Farhana Kamaruddin, Senior Manager of China & Northeast Asia Section, MATRADE;

  • Ms. Nursyafiqah Adlina Mohd Arshad, Assistant Manager of China & Northeast Asia Section, MATRADE;

  • Ms. Ainul Zahra Ahmad Razei, Assistant Manager of ⁠China & Northeast Asia Section, MATRADE.


This two-day event drew over 3,000 visitors and 150 influencers, and garnered coverage in 23 Korean media articles:


The South Korea cosmetics market reached a value of approximately USD 17.45 billion in 2024. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.4% between 2025 and 2034, reaching a value of around USD 28.02 billion by 2034. Asia-Pacific was one of the most important regions in the business, accounting for over 70% of the entire K-beauty market share.



 

Our Partner, Naia Jang, also facilitated the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange between MDEC and Seoul Business Agency (SBA). MDEC, represented by Mr. Balasubramaniam, Director of Scaleup Development, Digital Exports exchanged the MOU with Mr Junggu Ki, General Manager from SBA, which was witnessed by Ir. Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Head of Digital Industry Acceleration.


This collaboration strengthens ties between the digital ecosystems of Malaysia and South Korea, facilitating market expansion for tech companies and driving innovation through shared expertise and ecosystem partnerships. Together, we aim to unlock global opportunities and build a future-ready digital economy.
