Derek Kwik

Managing Partner, Hong Kong

Derek, born and educated in Hong Kong, boasts over 25 years of distinguished experience as an early 'returnee' to Asia, specializing in market entry strategies.

Recognized as one of the most esteemed leaders in the technology community, Derek has been actively involved with nearly every accelerator, incubator, and co-working space in Hong Kong. Since 1999, he has meticulously reviewed over 15,000 business plans and pitches, initially focusing on first-generation internet companies with limited product offerings such as free email, web browsers, and chat rooms. Since 2004, Derek has served as the Managing Partner of BraveSoldier Venture Capital, a prominent technology venture capital fund.

With a comprehensive background in investment banking, direct investment, and management consulting, Derek has been engaged in all facets of fundraising, including angel investing, family office activities, Series A investments, and IPOs (HK Mainboard, GEM, NASDAQ). As the former CEO of a Chinese contactless mobile payments firm, is recognized for hands-on leadership, guiding the company from seed round to investor exit with over 500 on-site visits, overseeing manufacturing in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Guangzhou, across diverse electronics sectors.

In his limited free time, Derek is a published author of two books, a sought-after university guest lecturer, TEDx speaker, Co-Chairman and Trustee of the Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA), Advisory Council member of Junior Achievement, and a popular mentor/advisor to numerous startups. Derek is also an accomplished extreme multi-day ultra-marathon runner, PADI Dive Master, and jiu-jitsu practitioner.

Recently honored in the book, "Those Who Inspire," as one of the most inspirational figures in Hong Kong, Derek shared this recognition with distinguished individuals such as the former Chief Secretary of HKSAR, Anson Chan, and LEGCO member, Martin Lee. Focused on start-ups, animal welfare, and youth, Derek's motto is, 'I sleep less to inspire more.
